Gorpcore: style inspired by outdoor activities

The world of fashion is constantly evolving and each season brings new trends. However, some trends not only attract attention, but also become real cult phenomena. One such trend is gorpcore - a style inspired by outdoor activities.

In 2017, The Cut editor Jason Chen noticed that the outdoorsy aesthetic was becoming increasingly popular in the fashion world. He decided to capture this trend and coined a new term, "gorpcore".

The word gorp is actually an acronym for Good Old Raisins and Peanuts, which translates to "good old nuts and raisins". The term refers to a snack mix popular among hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Gorpcore embodies an outdoorsy aesthetic, including hiking boots, fleece jackets, cargo pants and vests with pockets. One of the key elements of gorpcore style is accessories, which reflect the practicality and functionality of this trend. Carabiners, thermoses and backpacks are becoming an integral part of the gorpcor closet. This trend blurs the line between fashion and practicality, creating a unique style that resonates with those looking for a balance between functionality and fashion.

Thermoses and water bottles have become part of the gorpcore aesthetic, reflecting a love of outdoor activities. They not only keep drinks hot or cold for a long time, but also serve as a stylish accessory that can be attached to a backpack or belt.

Brands like Patagonia, The North Face, Columbia, Carhartt WIP, and Rains have become popular gorpcore fashion choices.

Over time, gorpcore made its way from the streets to the catwalks of haute couture. Fashion brands realized the potential of the trend and started looking for partnerships with these brands. This led to the perfect combination: the outdoors brands provided their expertise in comfort and practicality, while the fashion brands provided successful designs.

MM6 Maison Margiela presented their interpretation of The North Face's classic jackets, adding their own unique design elements. Gucci also released a collaborative collection with The North Face, featuring co-branded clothing, footwear and accessories.

Arc'teryx collaborated with Jil Sander, the German fashion brand, to create an exclusive collection. The collaboration combined Arc'teryx's expertise in functional clothing and technological solutions with Jil Sander's minimalist and elegant style. The result is a collection of lightweight clothing and accessories for an active lifestyle.

Gorpcor offers a refreshing alternative to traditional fashion, combining comfort and practicality for every day.

Gorpcore is also associated with the rise of environmentally responsible fashion. Many brands have spearheaded this movement by using recycled materials and ethical production methods.

As with any trend, there are critics who argue that gorpcore is just a temporary phenomenon. However, its growing popularity suggests otherwise.
